Highwayman Reserve Sonoma County Chardonnay
Tasting Notes
This 2021 Chardonnay is up there with the best vintages of this wine produced to date. From the nose--fresh citrus zest, bright melon and tropical notes prevail. And the midpalate--a lush, round and satisfying mouthfeel that's just kissed by oak. Light, friendly acidity balances this wine out wonderfully and takes it home with a fresh, lingering, mineral-driven finish. Pair with poached shrimp salad over butter lettuce or grilled spatchcocked chicken with lemon, butter and herbs. Dessert your thing? Orange olive oil cake with honeycomb-flecked whipped cream.
And of course, anything lobster-y—one of the most exciting wines for us to pair (and sip)!
We always say--this isn’t just for Chardonnay lovers—It’s for WINE lovers.
Winemaking Notes
Selected from two of our favorite vineyard blocks from Sangiacomo Family Vineyards, located in the famed Carneros region. The wine was completely vinified in oak. First fermented in neutral oak and aged on the lees for 3 months. The process continues where the wine was racked to brand new medium toast French oak barrels for 6 months to achieve the lightly toasty, vanilla notes. A secondary malo-lactic fermentation was induced to lengthen the palate texture and complement the bright, natural acidity.
